Met URME Surveillance stelt Leonardo Selvaggio zijn identiteit beschikbaar om te laten zien hoe we ons tegen gezichtsherkenningstechnologie kunnen beschermen.
URME Surveillance Identity Prosthetic is een fotorealistisch masker waarmee je jouw identiteit en acties verborgen kunt houden voor beveiligingscamera’s op straat, door de identiteit van “Leo Selvaggio” aan te nemen. Een papieren versie van het masker is online beschikbaar als betaalbaar alternatief en kan ook door activisten en demonstranten gebruikt worden. URME Facial Video Encryptor maakt een video waarin jouw gezicht door dat van Leo Selvaggio wordt vervangen en waarmee je via online videochats een andere identiteit kan aannemen.
The masks are on loan from Bits of Freedom and were purchased with the support of the Stimuleringsfonds for the Rendering Realities exhibition, curated by Margarita Osipian.

The first is the URME Surveillance Identity Prosthetic, which is a 3D printed, photo-realistic mask of my face. The second is the URME Paper Mask, a economical alternative that lends itself to groups such as activists and protesters, and lastly the URME Facial Video Encryptor, a custom built software that encrypts files by digitally replacing up to five faces in the video with my own.
